Havelock Community Centre

Overview

Havelock Community Centre is a excellent facility in the heart of Southsea, being around for decades. I was tasked with helping jump it’s marketing into the modern world whilst maintaining it’s traditional values of community. This was one of the organisations I worked with when running my student and charity scheme in my final year of University. This project produced 5 stunning reels for this amazing charity and also helped two additional students get hours towards their Self Promotion Module at the University of Portsmouth. I played the role of Producer, Director, and Camera Operator alongside my team. It was so lovely to work in such a welcoming community.

What When Well: I really enjoyed teaching a student peer of mine how to communicate with clients and run a freelancing business. I got to know James Sharvell on this project and we quickly bonded. He was really happy to attend every shoot with me and learn. By the end of this project he had taken my advice and has started his own freelance videography. It has proven to me that the student and charity scheme has helped the people around me in ways I didn’t expect.

What I Overcame: There was a handful of tiny problems for this project: the biggest one was being editing, I ended up doing myself after many months. I have learnt that it is really important to be prepared with a production, finding a editor has been a consecutive issue throughout this scheme. Because of this I have learnt to deal with a heavy workload over a short period of time.
